DIY Application and Warnings
Our wallpaper and wall decals are designed for DIY installation, but some skill and proper wall preparation are essential.
- Preparation is Key: Follow the wall preparation guidelines in our product information and steps below to ensure success.
- No Replacements for Installation Errors: We cannot replace wallpaper that has been incorrectly installed. We will not replace wallpaper that falls off the wall as a result of the wall/s not being correctly prepped as per step 1 and 2 below.
- Remove oil, dirt, and dust from the wall using a damp microfiber cloth.
- Allow the wall to dry completely.
- Do not use any cleaning products.
- Ensure the wall is clean and smooth—insufficient cleaning may cause bubbles during application.
STEP 4 - Wallpaper Installation:
- Remove switch plates, power points, and light switch covers.
- Start from the left-hand side of the wall with panel numbered '1' (check reverse for numbering). Ensure the wallpaper is the correct way up (marked ‘TOP’ on the reverse side).
- Position the first panel carefully, as it will set the tone for the entire installation. Ensure it’s straight for easier subsequent panels.
- Lay the wallpaper flat on the floor, peel back 10cm of the backing, and fold it back to avoid removing the entire backing sheet at once.
- Align the first 10cm to the wall, ensuring it's level. If your ceiling or adjoining wall isn’t square, overhang the wallpaper slightly above the cornice and over the left hand edges.
- Smooth it down firmly with the squeegee as you go.
- Remove the backing sheet slowly, checking positioning before sticking. If adjustments are necessary, now is the time.
- Work your way down the wall, smoothing with the squeegee and slowly peeling off the backing sheet. Remove any bubbles naturally; do not stretch or force the wallpaper.
- If you encounter bubbles, gently rub them out with the squeegee. For persistent bubbles, use a pin to pierce and smooth out the area.
- Apply subsequent panels, overlapping by 1cm. Align the image at the top and bottom to ensure a perfect match.
- Trim excess wallpaper with a sharp Stanley knife around obstacles like switch plates. Use relief cuts for rectangular shapes (e.g., electrical outlets). Trim the overhang from the top, base and sides.
Repositioning:
Our wallpaper is repositionable, so if needed, gently peel it off and realign it. Do not trim or cut the wallpaper until satisfied with the final position.
Moving or Reusing Wallpaper:
If you need to move or reposition the wallpaper, place it back on the original backing sheet and roll carefully for easy transport. Keep in mind that wall dimensions may vary, so the wallpaper may not fit if you move to a new location.
Wallpapering Multiple Walls:
- Install the first panel above the top cornice to accommodate for wall warping. This helps ensure the pattern aligns around the room.
- When you reach a corner, either cut with a metal ruler or fold the wallpaper around the corner to maintain the pattern’s continuity.
Wallpaper Removal:
- Pull the wallpaper slowly and carefully at a 180-degree angle. Avoid ripping it off quickly to prevent wall damage.
- Wall preparation plays a key role in ensuring no damage occurs during removal. Better wall prep = less potential for damage.
